Twelfth Night: A Celebration of Epiphany and the Winter Solstice
Allison Mondel, soprano
Marjorie Bunday, mezzo-soprano
Constance Whiteside, medieval harp
Douglas Wolters, viol
From Armonia Nova's website: "Armonia Nova, a medieval and Renaissance ensemble of instruments and voices, will perform "Twelfth Night" -- a concert celebrating epiphany and the winter solstice with beautiful music from 12th-17th century England, Germany, Spain, and France. For centuries the Feast of Epiphany has been a time to celebrate with fire, light, and music – to fend off the cold winter and mark the arrival of the three wise men into Bethlehem. Medieval music blends the sacred and secular to create some of the most moving and sublime music ever written. Equally fascinating is to experience the pure harmonies of the Renaissance. All this plus the lingering remembrances of the Christmas, create a concert that is beautiful and intricate, and that extends the joys of the glorious holiday season for those of all ages. Come and be a part of this tradition!"

Lumina et Spiritu
A concert for Lent
From Armonia Nova's website: "Lent heralds the rebirth of humankind, as the first buds on the trees herald the rebirth of nature. For centuries this time has been commemorated in music, but nowhere more so than in the music of the medieval and early Renaissance worlds. Music enlivened the monasteries and the churches, illustrated and dramatized the liturgy, the moral tales and stories of the Christian heritage. Each note, carefully thought out to reflect the immensity of the words, became a thing of great beauty and meaning. Music gave expression to these deep emotions -- emotions that are as timeless as the music itself. The music of these past centuries speaks to us today and sounds as though it was newly created for us, for our ears, for our hearts."
